Senses working overtime #148

1 Air NZ fashions

Fun look at the changing fashions for the trolley dol...er...cabin attendants from Air New Zealand.

2 Mike Woolgathering Sturm interview

I enjoy Mike's Woolgathering weekly newsletter (you can find a link to it here) and this interview was real and revealing. I like it that he's a real guy.

3 Yikes - Katie's story: broken dreams (and bones)

Human interest story - the flip side to medal success at the winter Olympics.

4 Lost In Space returns

As a kid I loved this original show. I have the reboot movie (it's pretty good actually) and I'm really looking forward to the new Netflix 10 episode reboot.

5 Emma Gonzalez
She gets my vote - this powerful speech from a Florida student is worth your time. Incredibly Trump is calling for MORE guns and arming teachers. Have them kill the killers.

Clearly he doesn't get it.

And then there are these thought pieces by teachers: the best things I read about the Florida mass shooting part 1. And part 2. I'm a teacher. I can relate.

Senses working overtime #147

1 Hard Day's Night

It's been a heck of a two weeks at work. I needed a picture to lead off this edition that summed it all up. The answer was obvious!

2 Vinyl, in praise of...

Nice look at weird vinyl design from Magenta.

I can’t tell you, man — what a life!

This interview with Quincy Jones has pretty much gone viral. There's a reason for that!

4 John Perry Barlow: Silicon Valley visionary...

...and Bob Weir's writing partner for The Grateful Dead, died recently. Here is his take on being an adult: a wonderful list!

Fare thee well now / Let your life proceed by its own design / Nothing to tell now, let the words be yours, I’m done with mine (Cassidy)

5 Pablo

Great piece on Picasso. I learnt a lot (could he have painted that much? I hope it's true).

Extra texture: Drones, drones, and more drones

Senses working overtime #146

1 UK Parliament on the move...sort of

The Palace of Westminster needs a huge repair job. The BBC article asks and answers some questions

2 The Croz

David Crosby tells it like it is and I agree with his opinions on his own music: I’ve made three records in the last three years and I’m working on a fourth now. They’re good records. That’s what I should be doing. Whatever time I have left on this planet should be dedicated to making the best music I can. It’s the one contribution I can make. Music helps things; it makes things better. Just like war drags down everything and brings out the worst in human beings, music brings out the best.

Rest of the interview here.

3 Star Wars books: How to buy!

Great run down of what's out there in the Star Wars fiction universe.

4 Love this (from Warren Ellis' newsletter)
Bryan Hitch variant cover for THE WILD STORM 12, colours by Alex Sinclair

5 Moral? Immoral?
Take this test to find out.

Senses working overtime #145

1 Street art from Argentina

More here.

2 Happy happy joy joy
Everything you wanted to know about happiness in one great graphic. Here's a mere snippet:

3 French illustrations

More oh la la...here and here

4 Hogarth self portrait
Excellent bit on a man and his dog - in this case satirist William Hogarth and his pooch.

5 Your train is delayed. Why?
This is great - a doco that The Lunch Room suggested (The Lunch Room is also a nifty newsletter you should check out).

Overtime

In Groundhog Day, Phil Connors asks his bowling buddy,“What would you do if you were stuck in one place and every day was exactly the same, and nothing that you did mattered?

And his buddy, who’s a little drunk, looks at him and says, “That about sums it up for me.”

Great piece on one of my favourite movies by Austin Kleon.
