Senses working overtime #247

Divisionism

I discovered Divisionism via Warren Ellis' newsletter.

Poetry corner

Coronavirus

Interesting, non alarmist, article about the reality of air travel amid the virus.

Infinity mirrors

Great post on picturing history, rivers and infinity mirrors from Austin Kleon.

Brexit is official - what now?

Nothing, is pretty much the answer as this excellent article articulates.

Overtime: Aldous Harding

This track cropped up on Mojo's best of 2019 CD and it fits my mood perfectly today. Enjoy!

DB: comic hero

Love this!

Wicker's story

Great Vox piece that hooked me in via album covers and held my attention!

The Croz celebrated

Great series of links to lessons about music from an old warrior - David Crosby, hisself!

Scary guy

Boris as the joker

The real Brexit story

Great summary from New Statesman of how this nightmare started and why it's so mind numbingly stupid!

Overtime: Grammar sticklers take note

The order of adjectives before a noun explained (and yes, there is one - whether you are aware of it or not!)

Brexit: The Soap Opera

I'm sick of thinking, "This can't get any worse". And then it does. Here's the latest from the BBC.

Depressing news: Rock is dying (apparently. cf Overtime below)

RIP rock music?

New movies

Vox reckon these new movies are worth waiting for...hmmm.

Warren Ellis

Latest sign off: Lock all the damn doors, shut out anyone who doesn't deserve your time and lives to make your life harder, and take five minutes of free air to be who you are and to be in the world and at peace. You're doing better than you think. Hold on tight.

Speaking of Warren

Coming soon...

Overtime: King Crimson

The latest Mojo to reach my newsagents had a free covermount CD featuring King Crimson. I love the early Crimson stuff. As long as they keep their music in circulation, rock will never be dead.

Yikes

Look at the way this guy is holding this precious record!! Wrong Wrong Wrong!!!!

The rest of it is pretty accurate though.

2 The Girls

I've just finished this novel which contains characters who replicate the Manson Family and events that happened in 1969 (that's when the novel is set as well).

Having read Helter Skelter years ago and been old enough to remember the court case, I have a grim fascination with the story.

Co-incidentally, while in a doctor's surgery waiting for my wife, I read an article in one of those dreadful women's magazines, about the remaining members who are still getting refused parole.

Eat Pray Love

Just started reading this book and...it's really good. Like millions before me, I like the too sensitive, high maintenance, erudite Elizabeth!

4 Disco era's 12 inch singles

Avengers: Endgame

Looking forward to this one, it's getting good re-release reviews, even though the 3 hour running time is daunting!

Senses working overtime #78

1 And...ACTION!

As part of his rundown on the best action movies of every year since 1986, Tom Breihan looks at Aliens

2 The education divide
Great Guardian piece on...well - everything that is important. The move against 'experts' and the educated. Sobering! Shocking!

3 Train wrecks...
...are endlessly fascinating. I'm particularly fascinated by the self-immolation going on in the Republican Party (the GOP) in the great U.S.A.

4 Alternative universe
Great infographic maps the alt rock history universe.

5  Aleppo

Drone footage of Aleppo. The operation was a success but unfortunately the patient died.

Overtime
Excellent parody of Trump/Clinton debate as they 'sing' together.
