Senses working overtime #317

1 Vinyl resurgence

Here are some quaint tips from Wired.

2 Animals - Frank O'Hara

3 Agatha Yu

4 Consider Yourself - Steve Marriott

A Steve Marriott compilation was the covermount on my latest Mojo magazine. When this came on amidst the Small Faces and Humble Pie tracks it was a shock to realise that it was his performance as the Artful Dodger that started it all!

5 Donald who?

The person known as the former President tried to blog and found out that blogging is hard!

 Truth and lies

2 Truth and lies (continued)

The best rundown of Donald and Rudy's bat shit crazy, bizarro, smoke and mirrors, snake oil, world I've read.

3 Guiliani and Trump, a.k.a. The Moon Men

Anne Tyler

Clock Dance is my latest Anne Tyler novel. It's hard to pinpoint why she's so brilliant. The writing appears to be effortless!

Overtime: Peter Gabriel

After reading a Mojo feature, I've rediscovered his 4th solo album this week (a.k.a. Security). It's even more brilliant than I remember it being.

Starship Troopers

Sci-Fi covers for this week - love that Yes song - inspired by this Heinlein novel!

Ursula

"Hard times are coming, when we'll be wanting the voices of writers who can see alternatives to how we live now, can see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies to other ways of being, and even imagine real grounds for hope. We'll need writers who can remember freedom—poets, visionaries—realists of a larger reality." —Ursula K. Le Guin

3.1 RIP Diane di Prima

3.2 RIP Sean Connery

4 Jane Fonda's blog (is cool)

What if Trump refuses to concede to Biden?

Broooooce!

He's back with the surviving E Streeters, and back with an album, Letter To You. It's great too (got my copy yesterday).

Trump's $1 Billion debts explained, really well!

I got my copy yesterday - so exciting! I love autobiographies!

Mount Tamalpais

During 2013 I went for a bike ride with Mike Rowbotham up Mount Tamalpais. I'll never forget it! Great views (SF far to the distant right), great homemade lemonade and music at the top.

Logical fallacies

The first 'debate' analysed well by The Washington Post and Vox. Why do they persist in calling these food fights 'debates'? The NZ version was no debate either. Bizarre.
Marvel's 616
A great piece from Rolling Stone, written while Bill was still around.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg's advice for living.

  Celebrating Country Diary

Paul Evans writes a great column for the Guardian. Here he is:

Country diary: the killer role of pollen in the hawkweed’s life cycle

The US election could break America

Let us not hedge about one thing. Donald Trump may win or lose, but he will never concede.

The Eruv explained. It's a fascinating explanation.
RIP Max Merritt

New Zealand's Billy Thorpe: Max Merritt had his first hit (the brilliant Get A Haircut) as a teenager in 1959 as Max Merritt and The Meteors and was a rock and roll powerhouse in the sixties along with Ray Columbus and the Invaders. In 1976 he had this massive hit in the southern hemisphere: Slipping Away

God bless Max.

Noah's Compass

I've moved onto my next Anne Tyler novel. It's excellent!

Overtime: Why I blog
For the same reasons as Austin Kleon articulates here. So there!

Afternoon tea?

Oh, yes please!

Slang terms from WW1

As a keen student of the English language, and a Kiwi, I was interested in these 20 slang terms that came from World War 1.

Donald Trump and Greenland

At least he has a sense of humour!

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Woodstock

The Anniversary. Couldn't let the moment drift by without some mention in JFTT. The record is iconic and the film is the thing and it's celebrated here!

1 Just do it

Great piece from the gifted Thomas Oppong about action! Do it! Make the great leap forward. Okay, you could start by just reading about it I guess. Here it is. Read it! Now! What are you waiting for?

2 Celebrating Len

Best thing I read this week - an obit for Len Herzstein. A Giants 'balldude', a regular joe, who lived well and has died age 93.

3 Lame Donald duck

Excellent piece about Donald Trump's  lame duckhood.

4 Greatest albums by women

Excellent run down of some outstanding music. How many do you own/have listened to?
