Senses working overtime #592

1 Spring is on the way at Maple Grove

2 Watched: Alone Australia Season 4

This is the one where nine Aussies and one Kiwi aim to be the last person standing in the frozen wastes of northern Finland. A good season but I wanted Clint (the Kiwi farmer) to 'win'. He lasted until the final three contestants.

3 Listening: Monkee Business: The Revolutionary Made-For-TV Band (an audio book)

GK recommended this audio book to me, and I've been a keen listener this week on my daily pootling to school along State Highway 50.

4 Reading: Three Reasons For Revenge - Dervla McTiernan

The amazing Jodi, in the Iona College library, has started a book club which of course I joined! The concept is that members choose a mystery book in a brown bag. In mine was Three Reasons for Revenge. It's yet to catch fire but I'm hopeful. Hold the phone!! It just got interesting with a deep fake blackmail of a sexual nature plot change!

5 Listening: The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Jazz at Oberlin

Perdido is a clear standout on this live album from 1953.

Overtime: Judy Garland

Always be a first-rate version of yourself instead of a second-rate version of someone else.

Senses working overtime #215

1 Is it rolling Bob?
Really looking forward to seeing this on Netflix when our new TV arrives. It's one of my fav Dylan periods.

2 The Book of Kells
If illuminated medieval manuscripts doesn't float your boat, you're reading the wrong blog! This is exciting news!

3 Cultosaurus Erectus

I've been looking for a good copy of this for ages - mainly because I love the cover. Finally got a copy and lo and behold - the music is actually good too (I love the 1976 to 1981 period of the band)

4 Ten facts about Oh, The Places You'll Go!

5 1984
Just finished Keep The Aspidistra Flying. Wow. An amazing read. And I still remember reading this all those years ago. Powerful!

Overtime: Davy Jones
His vocals are fantastic on the Monkees' hit: A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You.

Senses working overtime #214

1 A week of busy busy
No time to dwell in the interweb this week, means a week of work and fixing up the house with new furniture dominated. My senses haven't been too assaulted then.

But, I did go to The Monkees show in the Auckland Town Hall. So my JFTT is dominated by them this week. Hey hey...

2 Daydream Believer
The Auckland crowd loved this, sang along and thought of Davy!

3 Joanne

Mike is a little frail now and not in the best of health it appears, but he fronted in Auckland and left an impression on me. Unfortunately he didn't do this song, but it remains a favourite of mine!

4 The Girl I Know Somewhere
My mate Greg (middle below) gave me his Monkees albums a while back. Recently he passed on his two Monkees singles to me as well, including this little gem.

5 The three amigos go to The Monkees!

Senses working overtime #200

1 Okay - here we are at the 200th edition.

Wow - they mount up.

What does this mean? Well, it means that for the last 200 weekends I have posted on this blog. pretty cool huh!

Here's where they all started, 199 posts ago, with the very first one.

2 James Russell Lowell

American Romantic poet, critic, editor, and diplomat, James Russell Lowell would have been 200 years old on March 22. Clearly, no one lasts forever!

No, I hadn't heard of him either. So here's some bio, and one of his poems: The First Snowfall.

3 Peter Tork

One of my BFFs alerted me to the passing of Monkee Peter Tork. Like The Fabs, there are now only two Monkees left.

4 James Acaster

Love JA on Would I Lie To You, so snapped this (Classic Scrapes) up from Waterstones. I'm annoying Jacky by reading it as I laugh out loud all the time and want to read out bits to her. It's a blast!

5 Three Amigos

Heidi Allen, Sarah Wollaston and Anna Soubry

I was buoyed by the news of Tory defections and Labour defections this week - great to know that a whiff of principle and integrity still appears to have a place in British politics.

Overtime Private Universe
I love this Neil Finn song (done when he was a Crowded Housemate), reminds me of growing up in Auckland and sums up what this blog is all about in its own way.

I came across the Farewell concert CD at Flashback Records and lapsed into full on childhood nostalgia while listening to it this morning. Can't think of a more appropriate place to end the 2ooth JFTT post than in my Private Universe!
