1 How I felt this week
2 Reading: Lionel Messi
How Lionel deals with anxiety. Excellent article.
3 Reading: Marianne Faithfull - memories, dreams and reflections
I finished Loud in New Plymouth and needed something to get me through until I got home, so I picked this up from the little secondhand bookshop by the library. Pretty sure I read it years ago but it's a dim recollection and I'm enjoying her prose style all over again.
4 Listening: Joan Baez - Farewell Angelina
We stopped off at the secondhand shop in Turakina on the way home from New Plymouth and I found a copy of this in good condition for $10.
5 Reading:
Not All of Us Get to Be GhostsIn December I watch movies about ghostswith a woman I call mama though she is notmy mother, only a woman who is kind, this allI require. We take breaks to lean against each otheron the porch, her sucking smoke from betweenher fingers, exhaling its skirling; each mouthfuldissipating, becoming something like air. My breath’sa less impressive phantom, fleeting silverin the cold light. Standing therein our small shadows, we discuss the waysof the dead, their metaphysics, as if we were expertsby osmosis, a certain knowledge absorbed. I say I thinkour ghosts become us, or at least reside in our darklike tenants we haven’t the heart to kick out.She says, though she hasn’t quite figured it out yet, there are rules: not all of us get to be ghosts.Leila Chatti (2018) |
