Senses working overtime #118

1 Seinfeld: The Movie
Oh yeah baby!!!! I wish. It's a 'parody' (even though it's not technically a parody), a sham if you will but wouldn't it be great. It would be real and magnificent! Check out the 'trailer'.

2 Allen Ginsberg
Some 2000 plus audio cassettes have been released from his archive and are now streaming. OMG. Great piece about that and access to the list.

3 Icons for Africa
Ai curumba - check out these icons - thanks to James Whately for the link. Just what this one is...

4 Bridge of sighs

Five stunning examples of human engineering. And we can't get something going for the Manawatu Gorge!

5 Warren Ellis

I read Gun Machine this week. Wonderful piece of sustained writing with a genuinely exciting ending. Hurrah!!

Extra extra read all about it

My youngest daughter just announced her engagement. These beautiful toilet paper wedding dresses may be the go!

Great images have been released. More here from the Apollo missions.

3 Great car chases

Here's your top 10!

4 Stan the man
Stan Lee. 94. Going strong! Marvellous! Excelsior!!

5 Mad Men

One of my favourite shows of all time! Why it was both promise of better TV to come and dead end.

Extra Texture - memories are made of this
Nice piece about how our brain is made up of memories, and how similar humans are to sea slugs!

Senses working overtime #116

1 Cool movie and TV posters

Check out more here.

2 The beat generation

Great article and interviews with some of the beat generation, a.k.a. Allen Ginsberg's friends - according to Ferlinghetti who is among them.

3 Poor rich Qatar

I lived and worked in Doha for a while back in 2009-2010, enjoyed it too, so this article about Saudi's diplomatic war against Qatar was interesting, to say the least. The BBC outlines events well, too.

4 Rotten tomatoes? Fresh or rotten?
I'm a fan of the site but Hollywood is moaning about it. Boo hoo.

The world's greatest newspaper (a.k.a. The Guardian) weighs in on the debate.

5 So, how about that Spiderman?

Looks like mega success to me! Here are the numbers.

Overtime - Celebrating Warren Ellis

Castlevania is a hit on Netflix. Bravo Warren Ellis.

1 Spin, spin, spin the black circle

Welcome news about the vinyl resurgence!

2 Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating an asterioid field is approximately 3,720 to 1!

Asteroids can be scary things. Apparently in 2013 a small asteroid exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia. 1,500 people were injured from the resulting shockwave. Yikes!! 2013!!!

But, this article kind of put my mind at rest, just a tad.

3 Black Panther

Another Marvellous addition to the superhero ranks. See what I did there?

4 And here's more - 17 top movies to check out
Just a click away...17 of this year's best movies and how you can find them.

5 And...action!

Still photography on movie sets - great pictures as well as a great bunch of words.

Extra Texture

I've always loved The Amazing Spiderman. I collected the comics when I was a nipper and I dreamed about being him - he was accessible even though his girlfriends weren't. I enjoy the movies and Homecoming looks like the real deal.

Spidey - his story.

Senses working overtime #114

1 Big brother

Great piece about the lasting appeal of 1984 and George Orwell's world of the fut...er...pa...er...

2 The (shudder) eighties aesthetic

3 Han Solo. I've got a bad feeling about this.

Hmm - the directors have left the film (fired) while filming it. Not a good sign, although Opie Taylor is now in charge. Read all about it.

4 Your focus determines your reality

Great article about the distracted mind.

5 When to post?
Woh - exhaustive and entertaining look at when is the best time to post, tweet, facebook message, email, and so on. Amazing stats!

Extra Texture
This week, I've been reading a book about Woody Allen's career up to the early eighties. Hence this...

Senses working overtime #113

1 Annie and Alvy

True confession time - I'm a huge Woody Allen fan, and so I enjoyed this film review of the classic Annie Hall.

2 The Simpsons inserted

Great fun. More here.

3 Rock stars
Gotta love em.

4 21st Century movies - best of...so far
Some movies here I need to see (and some I can recommend).

5 Oh Yoko

Fair's fair - very pleased with the decision to add Yoko credit to John's Imagine. If you have read Grapefruit (Yoko's collection of stuff) you will know this rights an injustice of sorts.

Extra Texture
Arsene Arsene, give us a wave!

Fancy some stats on Arsene's 20 year reign at the greatest club the world has ever seen? Me too. Check it out fellow gooners.

Senses working overtime #112

1 Bridges in China
I love these images showing some tremendous feats of engineering in China even if they are in debt (China now boasts the world’s highest bridge, the longest bridge, the highest rail trestle and a host of other superlatives).

The Jiaozhou Bay Bridge in Qingdao, in Shandong Province

The Beipan River Shanghai-Kunming high speed rail bridge
in Guanling Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Anshun

The Duge Beipanjiang Bridge, in Guizhou Province

2 Words
Great Guardian piece on mangling words - it really effected me (sic).

3 Leftovers eulogised

I've watched a season and liked it, after reading this I need to rewatch and continue with the series.

4 Computer screens within movies
Fascinating look from the Vox people about how graphics get onto computer screens in the movies

5 Bobby gets a prize
Dylan's lecture on getting the Nobel Prize for literature is 27 ish minutes so grab a cuppa and let your boot heals wander.

Extra Texture
Anne Lamott gives 12 truths she learned from life and writing. Kinda needed this today...
