Senses working overtime #48

1 Unsplash

I'm always amazed at the stream of amazing images I get in my inbox from Unsplash. Highly recommended!

2 Togetherness
I'm not sure if this show has appeared on Soho yet but I'll look out for it. Seems a little like one of my favourite shows from the eighties - Thirtysomething.

3 Early risers
I'm definitely one! Good to know, via this piece, that the old - early to bed, early to rise scenario is paying off!

4 The Americans

I bought season one on DVD and enjoyed it, went to buy season 2 in NZ and - couldn't! It wasn't released here for some bizarre reason, so I had to grab a copy from HMV in London. Season three is not yet on DVD unfortunately and now Season four is about to hit Soho. I can't miss it! AARRGGHHHH! What to do. what to do?

5 POTUS
Yes I'm an Obama fan but he still so gets Donald Trump!!

Overtime
Charles Dickens didn’t just have a great mind, he had great calves as well.
That opening line hooked me! A great read on a key element of creativity. No, not great calves...solitude. Love it!!

Senses working overtime #47

1 National Geographic photos

This lot were unpublished (Mon Dieu!).

2 It's all the same story
I love Neil Young's comment to his audience on one of his live albums (Year Of The Horse from off the top of my head) that - it's all the same song!

This article (a long read from the Atlantic) is in the same superb vein.

3 London!

I love London and I miss it. This site makes me miss it even more. Lost locations of London. You could search around London for years and years and never get bored!

4 London! Again!!
In a similar vein - this Pinterest board called London Moments is grrrrrrreat!!

5 Wile E Coyote

Does Wile E Coyote help explain this crazy old world we all live and breathe in? Why yes, yes he does!

Overtime: I love everything about squirrels

Senses working overtime #46

1 San Francisco

Like a lot of people I lost my heart to San Francisco. My eldest daughter is one lucky bunny - she gets to live and work there.

These photographs reek of love!

2 Best film Oscar for 2017 goes to...
Great article about film and NEXT YEAR'S Academy Awards

3 Don't worry, be happy
TED talks - everybody loves them. I'm working my way through these ten so that I can feel better.

4 Scott Kelly

His photographs from the space station are gobsmackingly amazing.

5 Zootropia
This one from Disney should be as cool as um as er Magnificent Mr Fox (took a while but I knew it was in there somewhere). Here's the promo.

Overtime
I'm loving this interactive graph about when people marry in the US. Fascinating to compare education and ethnic groups.

I'm a fan of George Clooney. Here's a cool puff piece on him from the Guardian.

Senses working overtime #45

1 Tracking lives
I love the Granada TV series called UP . I need to buy the latest version) and so this TED talk about tracking Harvard students for 75 years is fascinating!

2 US Primaries
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that Jed Bush withdrew from the Republican race with a $100 million warchest. That's a lot of money!!

This digital planner keeps a good record of how the various candidates are doing.

3 Donald Trump
This whole Trump rise thing is looking increasingly scary!

4 Picture of the year

Great article and great picture. Loads of awesome questions that may haunt your day (it did mine!).

5 Yoko Ono
Yoko has a new album coming out soon. This news possibly doesn't excite you as much as it does me! This Guardian article is a nice review of her style.

Overtime: Winter is Trumping
This is great - Donald Trump inserted into Game Of Thrones.

Senses working overtime #44

I know I'm odd.

Here are five pieces of evidence for the defence:

1 I prefer winter!
Apparently that makes me smarter! Who knew?

2 I need books, lots of...books!
I have always been a reader but my appetite has increased in the last year. I am not alone!

3 Mega composites

Love these odd mega composites from Stephen Wilkes

4 Winter blues
I'm missing London winter weather. Even more so after reading this!

5 Star Wars

These damn fine fan art posters are rilly cool! I've included them before but they just keep coming! Thanks odd fan people for keeping it unreal.

Overtime: My old mate Greg (I've known him forever and he is old, although I'm older) included a really great song on his site this week - Argent's Hold Your Head Up. Indeed they can! But odd? Well it's a prog classic but it's actually a great pop song from the former Zombie.

Until next week...caio for naio.

Senses working overtime #43

Eek - I missed my regular posting on this blog. In fact I didn't post anything for TWO DAYS!!! Shock horror.

Building a pergola and attaching sails and Valentine's day stuff completely annihilated my blogging routine.

So I'll doing this before work, eeking out some time.

Okay - let's go...

1 and 2 Films of 2016
Some of these are already out but these two different sites have enough new content to whet the viewing whistle for 2016.

3 It's resolution time
We are a few weeks into 2016 so time to revisit those resolutions. If you haven't got them going yet, there's still time!

4 Brain Pickings
This is great site, as recommended by James Whatley himself.

5 Margaret Drabble

A great piece of writing from MD. I may have used this before. Sod it. It's good enough for a reread!

Overtime: A further edition of Brain Pickings

Senses working overtime #42

1 Fake fake fake!

Great story about a Nikon photo contest that went amiss.

2 Music Is Love
I love music - couldn't live without it. But why? This article helps explain why it's so important to me.

3 Lucky bastards

Loved this stunning piece about James Garner and how 'lucky' he was.

4 It's a small world after all
This Guardian piece explains how Facebook has brought the world down to 3.5 degrees of separation. Scary!

5 Piano man
How cool is Elton John? Very very cool! He surprised London commuters at St Pancras with a piano and a short tinkle!

Overtime: San Francisco
How cool is San Francisco? Very very cool as these then and now photo's prove. I love SF!!
