Senses working overtime 474

1 Autumn sunset at Maple Grove

The view from my music room.

2 Reading: The Lyrics - Paul McCartney

Closest thing we are likely to get to an autobiography, it says on the cover, and I actually believe it.

3 Watching: Unfrosted (on Netflix)

Jerry Seinfeld is a comic genius. He can do no wrong in my eyes. This is a beauty! Lovingly put together - the art direction, script, acting, cinematography are all class. It zips by too. Who doesn't love Jerry??

4 Reading: The Ultimate Music Guide to Paul McCartney

I picked this up a while ago from a weird novelty store in Wellington which had masses of old back copies of music magazines. Great companion to The Lyrics.

5 Listening: Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel

Talk about classy - Peter Gabriel oozes classiness. Great cover and Here Comes The Flood (especially) has been on heavy rotate.

Overtime:

Something will happen.

(Paul remembers one of The Beatles saying this after their van ran off the road and they wondered how they were going to get back up onto the road)

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

In the past I've dipped into it, but I decided to watch Jerry Seinfeld's show from the first episode. The above is how excited I am by that prospect. Haven't caught it on Netflix yet? What are you thinking??

Senior career level

Found this article interesting - indicates the things that you were initially hired for, then how that changes as you progress from mid career to 'senior', which is where I'm at.

And I think it's pretty accurate actually. Have a gander. What do you think?

Why Route 66 matters

Comics

If comics are your thing - dig this rundown from the good people at The Guardian. Warren Ellis gets a mention for The Wild Storm (above).

Love this image of Elwood Blues

Started the second volume of Andrew Loog Oldham's autobiography this week. It's a hoot!

Travels with my father

We finished watching all seven seasons of Doc Martin. So this one loomed up next.

When Ralph met Walt

It was 1860. Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walt Whitman hung out. Here's what happened.

From a certain point of view

Obi-Wan! Was he right to tell Luke a porky about Darth Vader?

Comedians I
n Cars Getting Coffee

I'm a big fan of this show. What's not to like - it's Jerry Seinfeld. It's relaxed (lovely shots of coffee and cars; lovely cafe style relaxed music). It's funny in a gentle way and it's short enough - roughly each episode is around 15 minutes long.

Wild By Nature

My current reading matter, borrowed from Jade's bookcase. It's okay but not especially well written.

Senses working overtime #67

1 !Taylor's surprised face!

I'm a fan but she's STILL a celebrity who, at heart, works the room superbly, as this compilation of surprised faces makes clear.

2 Taylor as the soap opera villain
Great piece of writing this, from medium.com, on Miss Swift as the pantomine villain.

3 Jerry and John

How could you not be a fan of both these guys? Seinfeld and Oliver go at it in Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

4 Rogue One

Ooweee baby!!!

5 Be here now

I like many of the ideas in this post - about being in the moment - mindfulness.

Overtime:
Why?
Finally this week - just a lovely piece on finding your why.

Oliver's Army
Here's an example of Oliver's brilliance:

1 Jeeerrrrrry

Jerry Seinfeld is a regular visitor to these pages. He has season 8 of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee out (soon? now? not sure). If you've never seen any (!!!!) go to YouTube right now and treat yourself.

2 Tim's views
Thanks to a link from James Whatley - here's a series of photos from Tim's view aboard the space station.

3 PM Dawn
RIP Attrell.

4 Rowan and Elton
Hilarious YouTube clip has Rowan Atkinson interviewing Elton John.

5 Welcome to a scary world...

Vantage have some great photography stories. This one is slightly creepy/ scary though - it details the strange world created by Mark Hogancamp who was attacked outside a bar in Kingston, NY. After coming out of a coma, Hogancamp created his own recovery therapy in his backyard — a miniature Belgian WWII town called Marwencol where Hogancamp can work on his dexterity and on his imagination.

Senses working overtime #55

1 Seinfeld

Where are the cast members now from the greatest show ever made on TV (official)?

2 Civil War
Great run down on the state of the civil war between Captain America and Iron Man.

3 Head case
Wowsers!! I told my Year 13 class about this story - an Italian neurosurgeon who claims he's ready to do the world's first head transplant! Yes - you read that right!

You would not believe how much discussion it generated in class!

4 The Force Awakens
Great read that reappraises JJ Abrams' addition to the Star Wars movie universe.

5 Ships Have Sailed

A bit racy this one but it comes from my latest follower on Twitter. I really like the song, Drive - melodic pop is my thing!

Overtime: Star Wars Virgin
Another great article from the Vox people. Scroll down and read the guesses and actualities sections.

Senses working overtime #52

Wow - 52 weeks - a whole year! That seems implausible! Inconceivable!

But here we are - the stats don't lie: Season One of Jewels is now complete.

1 Black Panther
Last week Superman - this week Black Panther!

2 To Zlatan
Apparently it's a verb! Great list of new football terms.

3 JERRY!!!

Where would we be without Jerry Seinfeld? I love the man. Recently, he's flogged off some old tat and made 22 million! He's the man!!

4 Richard Linklater
This Vox article on Linklater's latest film (the one after Boyhood, called Everybody Wants Some!!) made me want to reconnect with his earlier films (even though I didn't like Dazed And Confused). Reading someone else's enthusiasms can be infectious!

5 Weather channel photos

What a world we live in! Loving these photos from the weather channel.

Want to learn about some some stuff that will make you healthier? You're welcome!

Loved this interactive journey through Hieronymus Bosch's wonderful painting, The Garden Of Earthly Delights.

And that's it for the first year of Jewels. Thanks for being along for the ride.
