Senses working overtime #321

1 A man, a dog and a walk around the world

2 Terminator 2: Judgment Day

It's 30 years old! Still wonderful. And the American spelling of'judgement' still grates.

3  To the people

To the people
reading this poem, hello.
I want you to know
nothing bad will happen
as long as you’re here.
Every line you see
was written in a cab.
I’m on the FDR
in the middle of winter
and the sky is suddenly bluer
than Sundays in June.
There’s no reason for it.
No real science
to what will happen when
I get off at Chambers
and Broadway, wearing
gold and black sneakers
on my way to meet
a friend who is sad.
To my sad friends, hello.
For you I will be
a version of myself
I hardly remember.
I will be a lake
at the top of morning
some late afternoon into night.
And if you look away from
this page, to your right
there’s the world.
I am only trying to describe it.

—Alex Dimitrov, from "Poem Written In A Cab"

4 Detectorists

Loving this show! Season one was a hoot. We've just started on Season two and looks like Season three is out as well.

5 Johnny Flynn's theme to the show...

...is special as well!

Overtime: When it's over...

“When it’s over, I want to say: all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.
When it is over, I don’t want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.
I don’t want to find myself sighing and frightened, or full of argument.
I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world.”

Senses working overtime #129

1 The First Trailer. The Last Jedi.

Read and watch all about it here.

2 Yeh, Tay Tay

What to do with a problem like Taylor? Am I the only 60 year old male alive who actually appreciates Taylor Swift? I'm not sure how old Ryan Adams is, but he can't be that old, so, I think I might be.

Hilarious, is it not, that her image is so fascinating for people. Try this analysis for starters.

3 The politics of Plath

I read Ariel as an undergraduate back in the late seventies. Appreciating it was a complex experience; she was a complex woman.

Nice that Plath is still generating thoughts, words and new dramas into 2017. This Medium article is absorbing and worth your time.

4 The Governator on Trump

Arnie is the man! Here he is at Oktoberfest and talking sense about Trump (and other things)

5 Courtroom sketch artists and why we need 'em

Extra Texture
Austin Kleon's blog is pretty darn cool.

Senses working overtime #93

1 Trump takes on Arnie. Trump loses.

He never should have! The Terminator wins in this tit for tat.

2 See the world differently
One of my former students sent me this - and a cool message about how teachers can affect students. Love it!

3 Superbowl ads
Go the Atlanta Falcons - anyone but the Patriots! The winner on the day will be the advertising and half time show. Here's your fifteen best ads from previous iterations.

4 Sarah Cooper rocks!

5 Need some inspiration?
Thomas Oppong is my go to guy. Check out this post and some great quotes.

Senses working overtime #64

1 And a hero comes along

Joseph Campbell had it right - the hero has a thousand faces. Nice medium.com update on what makes a hero.

2 John Oliver
Has become widely known and admired for his own satirical TV show. Here he is explaining English football to David Letterman. Hilarious!

3 Seth Godin
Yes, more groovy messages from Seth. This one is about the signals we send. Reminded me of the
Jerry moment.

4 Hollywood and movie sequels
They are mostly bad bad bad and here's why.

5 Legend of Tarzan

I grew up with Tarzan on the TV, in one of my favourite comics and on the big screen. I'm a fan. Fingers crossed for this latest version!

Overtime

Speaking of heroes - here's another one fer yer - I loved reading the Robert E. Howard Conan books when I was younger. Looks like a reboot is happening with Conan as well.

Same fingers are crossed coz Conan has been poorly treated at the movies (and I'm an Arnie fan!).

Senses working overtime #9

1 J.J. Abrams
I love anything J.J. touches - movies, TV shows, TED talks...whatever. So I was always gonna love this - an article published on medium.com with the wonderful title: He was The Beatles to me.

2 Star Wars fridge - Han Solo in carbonite
This is so cool - literally!! I want one:

3 This week's cheeky article:
This Guardian article explains in a really entertaining way, why tall women wear high heels.

4 People are awesome
Time for another dose of this series - only one word for it...A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

5 The Terminator
Arnold is still the man. This clip is destined to add another footnote to
the 'Arnold is awesome' file.

Overtime: It's all Greek to me - I have zero interest in economics but I found this article that explains the Greece bailout conundrum fascinating. Loved the layout and I'm now informed. You will be too.
